How to track your personal expenses on iPhone

Updated October 13, 2026 · Patricio Albornoz

Start by recording what you spend

An expense log helps you see where your money goes. In tambo., enter the amount, currency and category after paying. You can add a note or keep a receipt, photo or PDF to return to the purchase details later.

For example, a coffee costing ARS 2,500 and groceries costing ARS 18,500 add up to ARS 21,000. Recording them separately lets you check the total and distinguish food, shopping and other spending. You can also record income to review your balance.

Organize categories, installments and recurring expenses

Use categories for spending you want to compare later. You can set a monthly limit per category and check the amount spent or remaining. Local accounts let you keep personal spending separate from a trip or project.

For installment purchases, enter the total and number of installments to spread the expense across months. Set up a recurring expense for rent, bills or subscriptions. Expense groups bring together purchases for a trip or project so you can check their total.

Keep currencies separate

tambo. supports Argentine pesos (ARS), US dollars (USD), euros (EUR), Uruguayan pesos (UYU), Chilean pesos (CLP) and Brazilian reais (BRL). Choose each transaction's currency to preserve its original amount.

Recording and reviewing expenses works offline. Updating exchange rates requires a connection; when saved rates are available, tambo. can use them for conversions. Converted totals depend on the rate used: amounts in different currencies are not interchangeable.

Review your history and spending breakdown

History lets you browse transactions by month, search your records and open notes and attachments. Analytics shows how spending is distributed across categories and lets you compare periods.

Your log reflects what you entered. If you forget a purchase, the total will not include it. tambo. does not connect to your bank or import a card's history on its own. On iPhone, you can set up an Apple Pay automation in Shortcuts to save Wallet purchases.

Keep a backup of your data

Expenses and receipts stay on your device, without automatic cloud synchronization. In Profile, create a JSON backup and save it outside the app. It includes transactions, accounts, categories, monthly limits, recurring expenses and income schedules.

You can also export expenses as CSV for a spreadsheet. Backups exclude attachments, your profile and preferences: keep receipts separately. Before changing phones or deleting the app, save a copy of the records and files you want to keep.

When to choose tambo.

tambo. is available for iPhone as a one-time USD 5.99 purchase on Argentina's App Store, with no subscriptions or ads. Made in Argentina by Patricio Albornoz, it works without registration. The Android version is still listed as coming soon on Google Play.

It can suit you if you want a personal expense tracker that works offline and stores data locally. This version does not offer automatic synchronization between phones or bank connections. Check the current price in your store before downloading.
